Book Review: Welcome to Uranus: Now Kiss Your Ass Goodbye, by Jason VonGerichten
This clever science fiction fantasy novel, Welcome to Uranus: Now Kiss Your Ass Goodbye, by Jason VonGerichten, had me smiling, laughing, giggling, and yes, even tearing up at times. Jason VonGerichten’s novel was, for me, immediately reminiscent of the late Douglas Adams’, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. That is literally one of the first things that came into my head as I began reading the book.
With artful humor, Jason VonGerichten weaves a story around Greek mythical gods and wayward humans who, unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your perspective, end up getting mixed up with them. Puns, wordplay, wit, and satire are liberally sprinkled throughout the manuscript and, honestly, there were times that I realized I had smiled at something and hadn’t stopped—even two pages further ahead—smile still there. This was just the pick-me-up I needed after a long workday!
Jason VonGerichten also taps into his massage therapy career and vast store of knowledge and experience into the human psyche, specifically the stress triggers and mind/body responses to those triggers, to set the stage for the destiny of the heroine of the story, Rosie. I don’t want to spoil your fun, so I won’t say any more about that. But, trust me, you will truly enjoy delving into these characters’ lives and following Rosie to the climax of the story as well as to the glorious finish. This is a wonderful story that older teens, young adults, and adults will enjoy!
